The Bettman circuit is entering another very important week of its off-season, the opening of the free agent market. This year, it's a very interesting market with many veterans capable of giving good hockey to aspiring teams.
Among these veterans, there is the name of Ryan Getzlaf who will surely find a contract under other skies than California. The Ducks, who are in the midst of a rebuilding process, want to make room for youth. It would therefore be very unlikely that the 36-year-old veteran returns to California from Anaheim.
According to the information we have gathered, the favorite teams in the Getzlaf derby would be the Nashville Predators and the Boston Bruins.
These two teams will be the ones to watch when the free agent market opens this Wednesday. If Getzlaf were to sign with the Bruins, it could hurt the Tricolore a lot since they will be playing in the same division with the return to normalcy. Getzlaf has slowed down tremendously over the past few years, but on a third or fourth line, like Corey Perry, he could be an indispensable asset.
Last year, he had only 17 points in 48 games with an offense that was ripping it up considerably. If he were to find himself in Boston with a much more threatening lineup offensively, he could put up more points next season. How much do you think the veteran center will cost to sign?
