Immediately after the draft, the various NHL teams will go into free agent mode as the opening day of the free agent market approaches, and it could get really interesting.
One of the names we'll be watching closely is defenseman Kris Letang.
The rumors have died down over the past few weeks, because the Pittsburgh Penguins seem more inclined to offer him the big contract he wants, but if the two parties can't come to an agreement, it will be a big name to add to the free agent market.
Expect speculation to resume that he is headed to Montreal.
THERE'S NEWS
Whether it's Montreal or Pittsburgh, Letang's demands are clear.
"Defenseman Kris Letang wants a five-season contract, and an annual value of more than $8 million (per season)." - Josh Yohe
Letang's price tag is clear, sharp and to the point. If the Penguins or Canadiens want him among their defensemen next year, they know what to offer.
Would you pay that price to acquire Kris Letang?
Letang, a 35-year-old Montreal native, had 68 points in 78 games last season with the Penguins (and 4 points in 7 playoff games)
The previous season, he had 45 points in 55 games.
