Last Thursday, the Quebec forward was left out by Gerad Gallant and even if Lafreniere should, in principle, be back in the Rangers' lineup for the next game, his coach is not satisfied with his game and has even declared that he must be better.
Obviously, when we talk about Lafreniere's rather modest start to his career in New York, the rumour machine starts and many Canadiens fans would love to see the young Quebecer come to Montreal.
By the way, as reported by Jean-Christophe Matte of Fanadiens.com, a well-connected tipster on New York Rangers news has some news regarding the potential value of the Blue Shirts number 13.
According to Ali Murji, the Rangers are reportedly asking for a first round pick and/or an impact player.
With the Habs having two first round picks in the upcoming draft, their own and the Florida Panthers' acquired one in the Ben Chiarot trade, Kent Hughes might be tempted to sacrifice one of those picks.
However, the Florida pick could turn out to be higher than the organization anticipated, as the Panthers are having a fairly ordinary season and with the outstanding draft this year, the Habs could well draft two quality prospects.
As for the impact player that is being sought, Kent Hughes will not sacrifice a Cole Caufield or a Nick Suzuki just to get Lafreniere to the Habs.
But still according to what Murji reports, Rangers GM Chris Drury's asking price isn't necessarily what he might be able to get in return, which is starting to look a little worrisome for what happens next regarding Laffy.
In 36 games this season, Lafreniere has 17 points, but has only scored five goals. While that's not a disastrous production either, the fact remains that Rangers officials are rather disappointed with his performance.
However, it is important to remember that he is only 21 years old and could explode at any time.
To be continued.
