One of the first mandates of the new leadership of the Montreal Canadiens is to identify the players who will be part of the team's short- and long-term «core».
In this regard, journalist Philippe Cantin surprised more than one, at 98.5 Sports, by stating that only two players can be considered part of the core, namely young Nick Suzuki and Alexander Romanov.
Suzuki is certainly seen as the first center in the organization's future, while Romanov is the youngest member of the defensive brigade and one of the few satisfactions of the current season.
On the other hand, it is very surprising that Cantin did not mention the names of Cole Caufield, or Carey Price, in whom Kent Hughes gave a huge vote of confidence on Thursday.
In short, even if some amateurs will not agree with the choices of Philippe Cantin, the list of untouchables of the CH remains quite short. It remains to be seen what Hughes and Jeff Gorton will think.
