Canadiens Goalie Prospect Signs New Contract After Refusing to Report to Team Months Ago
We have an interesting signing to announce for the Montreal Canadiens organization. It involves the young goaltender Mikus Vecvanags, who has finally come to terms with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
To remind you of this saga, Vecvanags is the goaltender mentioned by Martin Lapointe during a press conference.
Lapointe had stated that Vecvanags would play with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada this season (in the QMJHL), but this was even before the European draft.
He clearly misspoke, and during the draft, the Titan pulled a fast one on everyone by drafting Vecvanags before the Armada.
The young goalie then refused to report to the Titan and began the season in the BCHL.
A reminder of the whole story is right here:
A Montreal Canadiens goaltender refuses to report to his team and leaves
«Let us recall that Martin Lapointe, director of player personnel for the Montreal Canadiens, prematurely announced that Vecvanags would play for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada next season.
However, he spoke too soon, before the official draft, and the Titan outmaneuvered the Armada by drafting the goaltender before them.»
Today, all's well that ends well.
Mikus Vecvanags finally signs with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, good news for the Montreal Canadiens
See the official confirmation.
The Titan is proud to announce the signing of Mikus Vecvanags, a first-round pick in the international draft. The Montreal Canadiens prospect joins after a 4-1 record with the Brooks Bandits (BCHL). Welcome, Mikus!
