We have action today with the Montreal Canadiens, as the organization has just announced a last-minute press conference.
After today's major announcement, we have just learned the following.
"Fresh off signing his new contract, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj will speak with the media today at 11 AM ET via Zoom."
- Priyanta Emrith So, we will have news from him! We are excited.
Arber Xhekaj signs for two more seasons in Montreal
This is great news for the organization.
For comparison, Xhekaj just signed for $500,000 less per season than young Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson (who had also just finished his entry-level contract).
Xhekaj is also signed for one season less, but generally speaking, analysts seem unanimous in saying this is once again a solid contract given by general manager Kent Hughes.
This leaves him a lot of wiggle room under the NHL salary cap.
Xhekaj's contract really resembles the deal signed by Jordan Harris with the Montreal Canadiens, so Kent Hughes seems to be establishing a nice salary scale again, even with his young defensemen.
Details to follow.
It's an appointment, starting at 11 AM this morning!
