Unfortunately, this explains why he has not yet been traded by the Montreal Canadiens this summer, even though a fresh start would probably be really beneficial for him.
Anderson is a good hockey player and an extraordinary teammate, but the truth is that he doesn't fit very well in Martin St-Louis's system.
It's really unfortunate, especially since only 15 months ago, some analysts mentioned that he was worth at least a 1st-round pick, but now the Canadiens' number 17 forward would supposedly have a negative value.
To trade Anderson, Kent Hughes would therefore have to give (at a minimum) a 1st-round pick, which would be completely illogical as a trade for the Canadiens.
At that price, let's keep him and hope he can bounce back this season.
There seem to be two trade possibilities for Josh Anderson:
1- Anderson + draft pick or prospect, in exchange for future considerations.
2- Anderson in exchange for another player with a fairly large contract but who better fits the needs of the Montreal Canadiens.
That's where Tony Marinaro's trade offer involving Patrik Laine and Josh Anderson becomes more logical.
As for option number one, we can forget about it!
Kent Hughes will never give up a prospect or a valuable draft pick just to get rid of Anderson. He is much smarter than that.
And you, what would you do with Josh Anderson?
