Some experts have suggested, in recent days, the possibility of a great return of Toffoli with the Canadiens, knowing that he and his wife love Montreal so much, and now it seems to be a very real possibility.
As part of his end-of-season review, after the Winnipeg Jets were eliminated, Toffoli spoke like a player who will take advantage of his complete free agency on July 1st.
He will thus be able to sign with the team of his choice, and choose his destination.
In short, we can indeed expect to see Toffoli become free as the air this summer.
Toffoli, 32 years old, has amassed 44 points in 61 games this season with the New Jersey Devils, including 26 goals, and he added 11 points (7 goals) in 18 games with the Winnipeg Jets.
In total, we are talking about 55 points and 33 goals this season for someone who was traded at the 2024 trade deadline in return for 2nd and 3rd round picks.
It should obviously be remembered that Tyler Toffoli also amassed 44 points in 52 games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2020-21, and 26 points in 37 games before being traded by Kent Hughes in 2021-22.
He has always openly mentioned that Montreal is one of his favorite cities, and he recently came back to town simply because he missed it (him and his wife).
He wasn't playing in Montreal, but he was on vacation and came here.
It will be interesting to watch this summer, but would you offer a 3-4 year contract with an annual value of 5 million dollars to Toffoli?
On a second line with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, or even on a third line, that could be quite interesting.
