This is truly amazing and virtually unheard of.
A next nomination, and not the least, could also come soon enough as he would be very deserving of a Hobey Baker Trophy nomination and, thus, a chance to become the outstanding player in American college.
Hutson scored 44 points in only 34 games in his rookie year with the Boston University Terriers. That's 22 points more than the outstanding Cale Makar scored in his first year in the NCAA. However, Makar only played in 34 games, not 44.
Nevertheless, the 2022 2nd round pick of the tricolore will still have to prove that he can do it in the big league, while many are still hesitant about the young man's chances of success. His small stature (5 feet 8 inches and 147 pounds) surely played a role in his slipping to the 62nd round of the draft.
It remains to be seen how Hutson will progress in his second season in the NCAA. Makar had an excellent second campaign in the American college league, with 16 goals and 33 assists for a total of 49 points in 41 games. He was recalled by the Avalanche at the end of that season during the club's playoff run and had 5 points in 10 games.
Hutson is the offensive quarterback that the CH currently needs. Time will tell if he will be able to fill that position with the club, but it looks very promising.
We will be able to see Hutson in action, along with CH prospect Luke Tuch, on March 17th when the NCAA East Division Semi-Finals are played.
