We have just witnessed a major development for the Montreal Canadiens.

It concerns the young defenseman Justin Barron and it's a great news.

A return to action as early as tonight against the Colorado Avalanche?

Barron just hopped on the ice, for today's morning practice, and is wearing a regular jersey. (he can receive contact)

So he's taking the final step towards a return to action and that's a good sign as to whether he'll be in Martin St. Louis' lineup for tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

"CH morning practice: Justin Barron is on the ice wearing a regular jersey." - Andrée-Anne Barbeau

"Justin Barron, all dressed in red at Habs morning practice. It smells like Chris Wideman is back in the stands." - Simon-Olivier Lorange

"Justin Barron skates like he's going to play tonight. To be confirmed." - Arpon Basu

Barron, 21, has nine points in 24 games this season.

He was drafted 25th overall in 2020 by the Colorado Avalanche and was traded to the Montreal Canadiens (with a 2nd round pick) last season for Artturi Lehkonen.

More details will follow.
