With the infamous NHL trade deadline approaching, renowned insider Elliotte Friedman has just published an important article to vent about everything he is currently hearing about the trade market.
He has solid sources all over the NHL, so his information is always important.
In his 32 Thoughts segment revealed this morning, Friedman addressed, among other things, the Montreal Canadiens' situation ahead of the trade deadline.
Unsurprisingly, Friedman confirmed that the significant injuries to Monahan and Edmundson could completely change general manager Kent Hughes' plans for the deadline.
Clearly, it takes away some big ammunition from him. See what Friedman had to say:
"With Joel Edmundson and Sean Monahan injured, two of Montreal's biggest trade assets are out. Jeff Marek said this could be a quiet deadline for the Canadiens, and their absences make that likely. Yes, a player like Evgenii Dadonov could be traded for a late pick, but it's hard to imagine anything else. Most of their big moves were made last year. If the Rangers need to move salary and are willing to trade young players, I could see Jeff Gorton (who knows them well) being interested.
The Canadiens will also be very careful not to leave their young players without key veterans until they are ready to run the team on their own."

Real possibility of a trade between the Habs and Rangers
On the good news side of things and in relation to a real trade possibility, Friedman does mention at the end of his piece that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would absolutely be interested in acquiring Rangers prospects, and in exchange, Montreal would help New York lighten its payroll.
We can think of a certain Vitali Kravtsov.
"Friedman writes in 32T that, unfortunately, the Canadiens' two big trade pieces are injured with Edmundson and Monahan.
Dadonov could bring back a late pick, not much else.
However, if the Rangers are looking to lighten their payroll and give away prospects, Gorton and Hughes could be interested." - NHL Watcher
Example of a possible trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers, based on Friedman's sources:
TO MONTREAL -
A player like Ryan Lindgren ($3M)
Or Barclay Goodrow ($3.6M)
+ A prospect like Vitali Kravtsov
+ Possibly another pick or prospect
TO NEW YORK -
Future Considerations
Or a player like Paul Byron in order to place him on the LTIR.
