In the context of a very recent article, journalist Murat Ates, who covers the Winnipeg Jets and has strong contacts within the organization, just addressed the potential trade of Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Montreal Canadiens.
According to his information, the Jets' GM, Kevin Cheveldayoff, would have asked this of the Montreal Canadiens, for Pierre-Luc Dubois:
-Nick Suzuki for Dubois!
However, Ates believes that Kirby Dach could be a middle ground in a future transaction.
"Dubois was categorical in stating that he did not go to the 2022 Draft in Montreal expecting to be traded to the Canadiens.
This may be true, but it does not change Montreal's interest in the player, the player's interest in Montreal, and the fact that the Jets and Canadiens have discussed trades several times last summer.
One version of the discussion I heard indicates that Winnipeg was interested in Nick Suzuki, which was not acceptable for Montreal, while the Canadiens tried to put together a package including Christian Dvorak, Josh Anderson, and a first-round pick.
I think a trade involving Kirby Dach and prospects could be a way for the teams to find a compromise." A file to follow!
