Big last-minute statement on a possible trade involving Joel Edmundson: there is still interest
Friday was a busy day in the NHL with many trades taking place, setting the pieces in motion for the upcoming days. One of these trades surely displeased Canadiens fans. After numerous rumors involving the Habs, the Oilers turned to the Nashville Predators to strengthen their defense with Mattias Ekholm.
During the "JiC" show, host Jean-Charles Lajoie made an interesting statement about Habs' number 44 that could bring a smile to fans' faces.
"I've heard about four or five teams interested in his services. Edmonton was among them and was one of the most active clubs in the file. But there are still other fish in the sea." - Jean-Charles Lajoie
This is a very interesting statement regarding a possible trade involving Edmundson. However, nothing suggests that the teams are genuinely interested, and if the offers are attractive. Edmundson, who is 29 years old, has only played in 39 games this season. His recurring injuries may have significantly diminished his value at this trade deadline.
Kent Hughes can redeem himself next season, though, as the defenseman has another year left on his contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $3.5 million. However, he must return to full health and have a good start to next season in the fall.
