When the Canadiens announced the recall of goalie Cayden Primeau earlier this week, many fans of the team had questions.

Are Jake Allen or Samuel Montembeault hiding an injury?

Apparently not, and after Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia where Primeau still looked good in the Canadiens' 3-2 loss to the Flyers, the young goalie was sent down to the Laval Rocket.

While some journalists believe that the decision to recall Cayden Primeau was simply to evaluate him for the upcoming season, a former goalie of the organization has another theory about the young 23-year-old's quick recall.

As reported by Charles-Alexis Brisebois from Danslescoulisses.com, José Théodore stated in his most recent column published in the Journal de Montréal that the decision to have Primeau play in Philadelphia was to showcase him for a potential trade.

Primeau could be part of a trade going in that direction. Of course, Hughes would have to give up something else to get a more talented goalie.

Let's say it makes a lot of sense since even with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault, Primeau could be valuable trade bait.

However, there are still some fans and even some experts who believe that the player, who was selected in the seventh round in 2017, can still be the organization's future goaltender.

But the former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner in 2002 went further in his comments regarding Cayden Primeau's future in Montreal:

Let's be realistic. Time goes by and Primeau hasn't yet lit up the American League. He was once the organization's bright hope and was seen as bigger than Montembeault. But when you reach 24 and haven't yet convinced your bosses, a change is looming on the horizon.

Let's say it's a clear point.
