The NHL trade deadline is already less than 10 days away, and as the big deadline approaches, reputable insider Elliotte Friedman has just confirmed some bad news for the Montreal Canadiens.

The verdict is in on the fate of Sean Monahan and Joel Edmundson.

Unfortunately for the Montreal Canadiens, for Kent Hughes and for the team's fans, according to Friedman, both players would definitely be out of the trade market. (due to injuries)

Not surprising, but still very disappointing, especially since Monahan and Edmundson were the two big pieces available to Kent Hughes, and the two pieces that could have brought in other valuable first round picks.

As for Edmundson, Hughes could try to trade him at the next deadline (2024) because he still has another year left on his contract, but for that to happen, he will have to stay healthy.

As for Monahan, he will be free as a bird this summer. Will the CH offer him a new contract for one season? To be continued.

Kent Hughes will have two options:

1- Stay quiet this year at the trade deadline.

2- Consider trading other players who were not expected to move in the first place, like Josh Anderson, Christian Dvorak, Jake Allen etc.

There would also be the option of working very hard to try to sell Mike Hoffman, Evgeny Dadonov and Jonathan Drouin.

"Friedman: Monahan and Edmundson will stay."
