Carter Hart trade to the Montreal Canadiens: it was just learned that GM Kent Hughes did quite a job by not getting involved in that
As you know, after months and months of waiting, we finally know the identity of the five players from Team Canada Junior 2018 who are accused in this case.
One of these names is that of Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart.
Carter Hart and a trade to the Montreal Canadiens: Kent Hughes did well to let it go
It is recalled that last summer, the Flyers were actively trying to trade Carter Hart and the Montreal Canadiens were often linked to the young goaltender.
Some insiders even suggested that the GM of Philadelphia, Daniel Brière, was really trying to find common ground with Kent Hughes, but the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens never wanted to get involved in this file.
Now we understand why!
According to reporter Arpon Basu from The Athletic, GM Kent Hughes was absolutely not interested in Carter Hart and he refused all trade offers involving him.
Did he have a doubt about what was coming in this file? Possibly.
"I remember reading this and finding it so strange that the Canadiens were not interested in Hart; I guess we know what that unknown reason is now and why it didn't happen" - HabsLinks
Even worse.
According to journalist Andy Strickland's information, the Flyers' management knew very well what was coming and they did not want to have to manage it. (So they really tried to get rid of him, but in vain)
Is this a lack of ethics from the Flyers? They are being severely criticized for it today anyway.
Some believe they tried to pull a fast one on a team that didn't know what was coming.
In short, fortunately, no team fell for it, including the Montreal Canadiens.
"There was a lot of talk about the Flyers looking to trade Carter Hart last summer, knowing that this would eventually happen." - Andy Strickland
