The Arizona Coyotes forward is tied for the top scorer among rookies since the start of the season, and some Montreal Canadiens fans would have liked Kent Hughes to have chosen the young American with the very first pick of the 2022 draft instead of Juraj Slafkovsky.
But hey, I'm not here to make comparisons between the two young athletes but to talk about Cooley, who is already impressing with the quality of his play and maturity, and let's just say the Coyotes are very happy to have him.
However, as reported by Le Journal de Quebec, Cooley almost ended up with another team on the night of the draft at the Bell Centre in 2022.
This is at least what he declared during his recent appearance on the podcast Spittin' Chiclets, where he recounted that the Philadelphia Flyers were ready to do anything to acquire him.
In the end, the negotiations by the Flyers' management led to nothing, and Logan Cooley became a member of the Coyotes with the third overall selection behind Juraj Slafkovsky and Simon Nemec, chosen by the New Jersey Devils.
Philadelphia instead settled for selecting forward Cutter Gauthier in the fifth spot, and many experts are questioning this choice as he is playing this year for Boston College in the NCAA, while Cooley is dazzling in Arizona.
It's still very early to evaluate this draft, but we can already say that the young Coyotes forward certainly has a lead over Gauthier and even Slafkovsky, who is still struggling to find his rhythm with the Canadiens.
Really interesting to know that the Philadelphia Flyers tried to conclude a transaction to get Logan Cooley during the 2022 draft.
