One of the biggest needs for the CH right now, in order to move forward with the rebuild, is to add a young number one goalie of the future, a young goalie with the potential to be in the top 5 in the world.
Let's be clear about this. Montembeault has been amazing this season, but Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton can't afford to bet everything on him, and they can't bet on Samuel becoming one of the top 5 goalies in the world.
Experts have tried to identify other targets for the CH.
Many are talking about Devon Levi, some are talking about goalies like Dustin Wolf or Michael Hrabal, but one big name could be added to the list.
In the "we absolutely did not see this coming" category, see what the renowned Elliotte Friedman just mentioned:
This was part of his 32 Thoughts podcast. It was intriguing and surprising, but nothing too major.
Where it gets really interesting is when fellow guest Jeff Marek adds this:
So, in short, the Flyers would be questioning whether they should trade Hart, and Hart might be questioning whether he wants to stay in Philly during the long, painful rebuilding process on the horizon there.
In short, this is a very big deal to follow, and it would be really major if Carter Hart is ever traded this summer.
For obvious reasons, the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens would be in the running:
This is not yet classified as a serious rumor, but it is a very intriguing piece of information to keep in mind as the summer season approaches.
Hart, 24, has already played 194 career games. (79 wins) He was phenomenal in his rookie season, with a .917 OPS, but that has come down a bit since then (.906 as of today and this season)
He makes just under $4 million per season and is signed for just over a year more.
