Three Canadiens Players Confirmed to Be on the Trade Market, Including a True Surprise
After playing over a quarter of their season, teams now have a better idea of their needs. There have already been trades (Anthony Beauvillier) and signings additions (Patrick Kane) as some GMs do not want to wait until March 8, the trade deadline, to solidify their lineup.
The Athletic journalist Chris Johnston has set the stage for the coming weeks by revealing the 25 players most likely, in his opinion, to leave their team by next March.
Three CH players are in the top 13 of this list. We have Jake Allen (7th rank), Samuel Montembeault (8th rank) and Sean Monahan (13th rank). It should be noted that Cayden Primeau is not on this list of the 25 players most likely to be traded. The journalist therefore thinks that if a goalkeeper leaves, it will be one of the two veterans of the group.
Yes, it is very surprising to see Samuel Montembeault's name still on this list.
Here's what he had to say about the two goaltenders:
"There aren't many options available right now for teams that want to improve in goal. Allen is perhaps the best fit in most situations." Chris Johnston
"Allen's contract is more expensive and has a fixed term, while Cayden Primeau is the least established among Montreal's three-headed goalkeeper monster. It goes without saying that even if the Tricolore likes Montembeault, other teams might feel the same way." - Chris Johnston
This file will continue to be talked about until one of the two leaves the club.
Elsewhere in the NHL, the top four players on this list are Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, and Chris Tanev. The Calgary Flames will therefore be watched in the coming weeks, as the club's new GM, Craig Conroy, will have many big decisions to make.
With a rather disappointing start to the season (9-10-3 for a total of 21 points) and many players who will become free agents without compensation next summer, it's the perfect time for Conroy to shape his new team in his image. It remains to be seen whether he will wait long, or not, before implementing his plan.
