In a recent article, journalist Marc Antoine Godin, who covers the Montreal Canadiens for The Athletic network, made an interesting statement about a possible trade involving Joel Edmundson.
Unsurprisingly, Godin seems to think that Edmundson will be traded this summer, and according to him, three teams would potentially be worth watching in this case.
We are talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Los Angeles Kings, and the New York Islanders.
He even goes a little further.

Taking into account this information, Marco Normandin completes it all with the following transaction suggestion:
To the Canadiens
- Josh Bailey
- 1st round pick (protected) 2024
- 2nd round pick 2023
To the Islanders
- Joel Edmundson (50% of salary retained)
This could be a smart way to use the freed space under the NHL salary cap. At the very least, even with a simple 1st round pick, it would be a solid trade.
This could remind a bit of the trade concluded between Kent Hughes and Lou Lamoriello, for defenseman Alex Romanov, last year.
Bailey, 33, was a 9th overall pick (1st round) in 2008. He collected 25 points in 64 games this season and 44 points in 74 games last season.
He would have a negative value in the trade, with his 5 million dollar contract valid until 2024.
Edmundson, 29, earns 3.5 million dollars until 2024 and he is exactly the type of player loved by Lou Lamoriello and the Islanders.
At less than 2 million dollars, he would have a large value for New York.
