Yesterday, a few minutes after Sean Monahan was traded to the Winnipeg Jets, an interesting new forward became available.

Quebecer Julien Gauthier was placed on NHL waivers by the New York Islanders.

The other 31 teams in the league had until 2 p.m. today to add Gauthier to their roster for free.

The verdict has just been announced.

Julien Gauthier was not claimed and his next team will be the Islanders' AHL affiliate

With the big gaps on offense for the Habs, some believed Kent Hughes might have given Gauthier a chance, a short audition, but no.

Would he have been a better option than Lucas Condotta and Mitchell Stephens? That's for you to decide.

26 years old and from Pointe-aux-Trembles, Gauthier is a 6-foot-4, 226-pound forward who was drafted 21st overall (1st round) in the 2016 draft.

He has a fairly solid 9 points in 27 games this season, including five goals. In his NHL career, he has 19 goals and 41 points.

Would you have liked the Habs to claim him?
