It's completely normal, the trade deadline is fast approaching and Canadiens fans are always very excited at this time of year.
However, there is currently nothing indicating that Kent Hughes will be very active by March 3rd, but there is also nothing proving that he will not be.
Even though the cases of Sean Monahan and Joel Edmundson still seem uncertain, both CH players are still on the injured list, and other players could interest some teams.
You've pretty much identified them all already.
Among them, there is forward Mike Hoffman who is currently on a hot offensive streak and with less than a week until the deadline, it is plausible to think that he could interest some teams across the NHL.
However, as reported by Keven Mawn from Fanadiens.com, the demand for the number 68 is not very high and two experts have commented on his potential value.
What could the return be in a trade for Hoffman?
During a recent appearance on BPM, Bob Hartley and Jean-Charles Lajoie discussed Hoffman's situation, and Lajoie mentioned that he could fetch the Canadiens a third or fourth-round pick, which Hartley seemed to agree with.
Would you do it?
Lajoie went on to say that if Kent Hughes was able to get a good offer for his forward, he would be in his last miles with the Canadiens. Hoffman still has one more season on his contract at $4.5 million per year, but even if some clubs wanted to add him to their lineup, the constraints of the salary cap complicate the lives of general managers, and that is even more true this season.
Unless the Canadiens retain some of Hoffman's salary and if Kent Hughes wanted to save money, it could then be possible that the last year of the number 68's contract would simply be bought out at the end of the season.
