He sent Evgenii Dadonov to the Dallas Stars for the promising Denis Gurianov (a former first round pick, 12th overall)
Many of you have asked the question: why did Dallas prefer Dadonov to a younger man like Gurianov?
We just learned the answer.
According to reports, the Stars had no intention of retaining Gurianov's services this summer, as he will be a restricted free agent. He would not have been qualified, especially because of their many young players who will be ready to join their lineup next year, including a certain Logan Stankoven.
In their trade, they did not consider the age of the player, nor his potential.
They only wanted to get the player with the best chance to help them this season and in the next NHL playoffs.
And according to them, Dadonov was that player, being a fairly complete veteran.
Interestingly, Gurianov has averaged just over 12 minutes per game so far this season, which is very little.
On top of that, the Stars were asking him to focus on his defensive game, which is not his cup of tea. So it was hard for him to gain confidence in his game and develop under such conditions.
With the CH and Martin St -Louis, Gurianov will definitely have the chance to play big minutes, and especially, to play more freely offensively.
It promises!
If the very dominant Denis Gurianov of the 2020 series resurfaces, the Stars will bitterly regret this trade.
