As reported by Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, four new players are currently available for free, including one big surprise, and a surprise that is causing confusion among fans.
You read that right.
After being claimed off waivers just 24 hours ago by the Vegas Golden Knights, Raphaël Lavoie is back on waivers.
Is this a second chance for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens?
Here's another, let's say, unique move by the Golden Knights.
It's quite an unusual situation, but as explained well by the TVA Sports insider, Vegas may have just given a nice gift to the Edmonton Oilers, who can now claim Lavoie and send him directly to the AHL.
Of course, all other teams (including the Montreal Canadiens) can still claim Lavoie, but the Oilers are the only ones who can claim him and immediately send him to their AHL affiliate.
Lavoie, 24 years old, is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound Quebec forward. He was the 38th overall pick by Edmonton in 2019 (2nd round) and posted a solid 50 points in 66 games last season in the AHL.
Also, note that veteran goaltender Chris Driedger is on waivers, who had been solid with the Florida Panthers before ending up with the Seattle Kraken.
UPDATE
It appears the Oilers will claim back Lavoie according to NHL journalist Derek Van Diest!
