Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have not hidden their desire to sign an impactful forward this week through the NHL free agency market.

After missing the opportunity to sign Steven Stamkos or Jonathan Marchessault, all indications are that they tried with Vladimir Tarasenko.

The one who ultimately signed with the Detroit Red Wings yesterday, and who will be back alongside Patrick Kane, was indeed on the radar of Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens according to information from Pierre McGuire.

"Furthermore, in McGuire's eyes, the Canadiens were among the teams interested in his services this summer (those of Vladimir Tarasenko).

One has to wonder if there's a connection to be made with Ivan Demidov, who should be there in a year." - Charles-Alexis Brisebois

In short, it is really interesting to learn that the Montreal Canadiens attempted to sign Vladimir Tarasenko.
