A journalist from THN has just caused a stir regarding a trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings involving Arber Xhekaj.

It's incredible to see how out of touch some reporters can be when they're not directly in the hockey market they're covering for a column.

As you know, given that he is still a restricted free agent (RFA) and without a contract for the upcoming season, the name of the young forward Arthur Kaliyev has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens in recent days.

After all, it makes sense.

We're talking about an offensive forward with great potential who might need a fresh start (and a playing system like Martin St-Louis's).

In short, by addressing this topic, THN journalist Austin Stanovich caused quite a surprise.

Arber Xhekaj involved in a trade for Arthur Kaliyev?

You read that right. In his recent column on The Hockey News, Stanovich mentioned this:

«This is where Joel Edmundson's signing starts to hurt. [] The club wanted physical players, and Arber Xhekaj would have been a perfect fit.»

This comes from a journalist based in Los Angeles, who obviously has no idea of Xhekaj's value to the Montreal Canadiens.

There are so many things wrong with this statement.

First, we can confirm, from reliable sources, that Kent Hughes would never trade Arber Xhekaj for an Arthur Kaliyev.

For a Trevor Zegras or a Martin Necas, many fans wouldn't do it (for obvious reasons), but it might make more sense.

However, it's unreasonable to think that a trade involving Arber Xhekaj and Arthur Kaliyev would interest the Canadiens.

I'm not against the idea of giving Kaliyev a chance, but only if the price is very reasonable.

Secondly, I disagree with saying that «Joel Edmundson's signing prevents the Kings from acquiring Arber Xhekaj.»

If they can't acquire Arber Xhekaj, it's simply because the Canadiens have no interest in trading him, especially not in this type of transaction.

It would be like saying «Alex Barré-Boulet's signing prevents the Canadiens from acquiring Trevor Zegras.»

In short, rest assured. Arber Xhekaj will not be traded for Arthur Kaliyev, despite the following text:

In any case, in Los Angeles, they also seem to think that Montreal would be a logical destination for Kaliyev.

Stay tuned!
