A major trade involving four assets between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets has just been submitted according to a Slovakian media outlet.

CH fans are familiar with this song, and the matter has been dragging on for a while for reasons we mentioned yesterday:

But the reality is that Kent Hughes is very interested in young Rutger McGroarty and is trying to acquire him via a trade.

This has been confirmed by several sources, so it's normal to see the topic come up quite frequently.

Updates on negotiations between Kent Hughes and the Winnipeg Jets for Rutger McGroarty

McGroarty, who has mentioned that he would not sign with the Jets, has reportedly been officially offered in a trade between Montreal and Winnipeg.

According to a Slovakian media outlet, Filip Mesar, a first-round pick, and Justin Barron have been offered in a trade for Rutger McGroarty.

There was also the option to replace Justin Barron with Jordan Harris in this trade offer submitted by the Canadiens.

So it would have looked like this:

To Montreal:

Rutger McGroarty

To Winnipeg:

Filip Mesar
Panthers/Flames' first-round pick
Justin Barron or Jordan Harris

Winnipeg has reportedly rejected these proposals so far, but that could change very quickly.

McGroarty, 20, was the 14th overall pick in 2022 (1st round). He is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who has amassed an incredible 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA.

His acquisition and signing would be a very good move for Kent Hughes, and it would nicely complete the summer season for the Habs.
