We have news about a trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders involving Patrick Roy.
At the beginning of the summer, a few sources linked the name of young forward Oliver Wahlstrom to Kent Hughes and the Canadiens, but it calmed down after Wahlstrom signed a one-year contract with the Long Island team.
Finally, not so fast.
According to new information, despite the signing of this new one-year contract, everything indicates that Oliver Wahlstrom will leave the Islanders.
We're not talking about a major acquisition and a guaranteed top-6 forward, but it could be an interesting project for Martin St-Louis. (and the price to acquire him will be extremely low)
Oliver Wahlstrom, a target for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens?
We're talking about a player with enormous potential, who was seen as a future NHL star a few years ago, but who simply never managed to thrive in the very strict system of the New York Islanders.
Yes, it always feels like the end for him there. Interesting.
Despite this signing, rumors from New York indicate that it would be surprising to see Wahlstrom in the Islanders' lineup this fall.
Here's what Ethan Sears of the New York Post had to say about it:
« It would be surprising if Wahlstrom is part of the opening night lineup.
Unless there is a substantial improvement in his game... a contract does not change the underlying reality that Wahlstrom's presence on the NHL (Islanders) roster is highly unlikely. »
- Ethan Sears
This comes from Samuel Doiron's text (link at the bottom).
Wow. So, we learn here that Oliver Wahlstrom's days with the New York Islanders seem really numbered, and just like with Patrik Laine in Columbus, we should absolutely expect a quick trade in this matter.
There is still hope for those who want to see Kent Hughes add a forward by this fall!
Here's what GM Lou Lamoriello had to say recently about Oliver Wahlstrom:
«He worked very hard all summer and if we can give him an opportunity (with another team), because it hasn't worked out [we will], but we're not going to give him away. He's still a hockey player. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury that takes a long time to heal. I think he's ready. We're waiting to see what happens.»
- Lou Lamoriello
Yes, it smells like the end.
Oliver Wahlstrom, 24, is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound winger. He was the 11th overall pick in 2018 (1st round) by the New York Islanders and has accumulated 67 career points in the NHL, including 34 goals.

Tout indique qu'Oliver Wahlstrom quittera Long island
