As reported by Olivier Paiement of DansLesCoulisses, it's amazing to see how far Montreal Canadiens' young defenseman Arber Xhekaj has come since his first game of the season.
In a few months, he went from a simple rookie to a rather important, and above all, respected element of the organization.
More and more players and knowledgeable people are starting to report that Xhekaj is quickly becoming a leader in the Habs locker room. When he speaks, the players actually listen.
There are even some of his opponents who come out publicly to praise him, so much do they respect him:
"He's a big guy who's not afraid to play physically and has shown he's not afraid of anyone."
- Michael Bunting Others bluntly said they obviously don't like playing against him, but they really respect "WiFi."
John Tavares and Wayne Simmonds (two solid leaders) are notably among those who had a lot to say, positively, about Xhekaj in recent hours.
"I have tremendous respect for what he has accomplished."
- Wayne Simmonds
That says a lot.
In short, it's already safe to say that Xhekaj is a player with impressive presence and a player who is overly respected.
So we want to ask you this question. Do you think Arber Xhekaj would make a good assistant to captain Nick Suzuki?
Personally, we think he would be a strong candidate.
It would be quite a promotion, and maybe it's too early, but it seems like such a natural and logical choice.
One thing is for sure, he is already a leader even though he is only in his rookie season. It's very unexpected to have this conversation, but it adds to the great story of Arber Xhekaj.
