The Habs' new staff is in its final stretch to be ready for their first draft, which will be at the Bell Centre no less. After spending some time in Finland for the World Championship, the group of men led by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are currently in Buffalo where the NHL Combine 2022 is being held. They have, as of Monday, the opportunity to meet with young prospects in preparation for the upcoming draft.

We learn today a big scoop, according to the usually reliable SportExpress, when a major decision would have been made internally not to select Russian players in the next draft.

"According to @sportexpress reporter Ivan Bogun, the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers have decided not to select any Russian players in the #2022NHLdraft."

So we won't see Danila Yurov, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Gleb Trikozov or any other promising young Russian men in the CH's 2022 draft if the news turns out to be true.

The world political situation will have gotten the better of the Montreal organization, as it is currently the case throughout the CHL.

As TSLH reminds us, Kent Hughes is reportedly sending quite a message here as his European scouting director, Nick Bobrov, holds Russian citizenship.

Kent Hughes will address the media live from the combine this Tuesday at noon. It will be interesting to see if he is asked the question.

This should be taken with a grain of salt, but the source is reliable.
