On Monday night, the New York Rangers confirmed their place in the Eastern Association Finals with a 6-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in the final matchup. The win not only confirmed the Blue Shirts' first third-round appearance since the 2014-15 season, but also the CH's selection rankings in the upcoming draft.

As Mathias Brunet reminds us, the CH will have the 1st, 26th and 33rd picks next July at the Bell Centre.

It's the 26th that interests us here, because, until last night, the exact rank was not yet known. It is now settled.

We're talking about the pick acquired in the trade that sent Tyler Toffoli to Calgary on February 14th. The final trade is now officially known, check it out:

TO CALGARY - Tyler Toffoli

TO MONTREAL - Tyler Pitlick, Emil Heineman, a fifth-round pick in 2023 and the 26th overall pick in the 2022 draft (first round)

This looks like a good return!

If the Hurricanes had won yesterday's game, the Tricolore would have drafted 27th overall. So the Rangers win is good news here. The pick could also have gone as low as 32nd if the Flames had gone further in the playoffs.

Kent Hughes will also speak, if he doesn't trade, at 63rd, 65th, 74th, 91st, 97th, 125th, 127th, 129th, 161st, 193rd and 215th for a grand total of 14 selections.

Considering the number of picks the organization has, it would not be surprising if some of them were used to move up or in a major transaction.
