With the deadline fast approaching on July 13, NHL teams are starting to try to retain the services of their free agents. Not only their uncompensated free agents (UFA), but also their restricted free agents (RFA).

As we mentioned in a recent article, there are several RFAs that will be interesting to watch this summer for the various NHL GMs. One that goes under the radar, however, is Winnipeg Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Dubois, 23, is coming off a two-season contract that paid him an average of $5 million per year. He played his first full season with the Jets after being traded by the Blue Jackets for Patrik Laine, among others. The Quebecer had 60 points (28 goals and 32 assists) in 81 games last season.

According to what Jeff Marek mentioned during the intermission of the game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Edmonton Oilers this Saturday night, the discussions between Dubois' clan and the Jets would not have started yet (and would be completely stalled).

"Marek at intermission says there have been no contract talks between Dubois and Jets."

"Also, Dorion says it's very possible the Senators will start next season with three goalies even though no one would like that scenario."

If Dubois does not agree with the Jets by the opening of free agency, it will be interesting to see if a team will try to acquire him via trade or even, via a hostile offer.

Many CH fans have long dreamed of seeing the Quebecer play for their favorite club. Will Kent Hughes try his luck if he sees the opportunity? It will be a file to follow in the coming weeks.
