With training camp fast approaching, some NHL teams are still looking for goaltenders. It seems that the Dallas Stars and the Arizona Coyotes are among those teams.
According to what a source revealed to Montreal Hockey Now, both organizations (Dallas and Arizona) would have a strong interest in Canadiens goalie Jake Allen.
"I'm hearing Jake Allen more and more (on the market). The Stars or the Coyotes make sense. Both teams have looked at him in the past, I know that. Depending on what happens with Price, it could make a lot of sense for them and for the Canadiens. Let's say Carey is ready to play, or close to it, at the beginning of the season. Then what happens if Jake Oettinger hasn't been signed by then or if he sulks during camp, do you take a chance with de Scott Wedgewood as your goalie to start the season if you think you're a contender this year?"
"The Yotes need another goalie and honestly, they want to be as competitive as possible to create and maintain the buzz around them." Arizona is indeed in need of help in front of the net, as only 26-year-old goalie Karel Vejmelka is currently under contract with the American outfit. With $20.3M in cap space and one more contract spot to fill, they can afford to dream big. According to the same source, the Coyotes have been very active in trade talks this summer. They are reportedly shopping defenseman Jakob Chychrun heavily, but are looking to acquire "quality players," not just salary, picks and prospects.
For their part, the Stars appear to be having tough negotiations with their goaltender Jake Oettinger. The 23-year-old, who is coming off a 41-23-8 season with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .913 SV%, may miss the start of camp. At this point, Jim Nill has about $10 million to sign Oettinger and star forward Jason Robertson...
