Since Kent Hughes took over the Habs in January, it's safe to say that he's made significant changes to build a team that reflects his image.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done to give Habs fans a competitive team on the ice. Admittedly, some of the decisions made by former GM Marc Bergevin are starting to weigh heavily on the organization, such as Brendan Gallagher's contract.
Still, as reported by J.B. Gagné of GoHabsGo.com, one NHL executive recently praised the great job Kent Hughes has done since his arrival.
Jimmy Murphy of Montreal Hockey Now recently spoke with a top official who works within the NHL, and he said Hughes has done a colossal job since being hired, especially considering the quagmire his predecessor got the Habs into.
"I mean, Kent (Hughes) and Bill (Zito) were on the other side as player agents. They saw the tough situations that GMs can get into and both of them came in and had to clean up the mess that was left by the guy who left. I look specifically at Kent and I see a guy with a vision, he's just starting to establish it and pave the way to get there, but he's doing it very well."
Despite all the changes Hughes has made since his arrival, the Habs are still stuck with the salary cap, which says a lot about the end of Marc Bergevin's reign.
The anonymous executive is really talking about "the mess that was left by the guy who left". That's very direct!
Murphy ends his article by mentioning that Geoff Molson seems to have full confidence in Kent Hughes at the moment and that it seems that within the NHL, people believe that he will be able to liquidate the contracts of Josh Anderson or Christian Dvorak and maybe even Jake Allen by the beginning of the 2022-2023 season.
To be continued.
