The Habs surprised everyone this week by announcing that the organization would be honoring one of the most electrifying players of the past few years in P.K. Subban. The ceremony will take place on January 12th during the CH game against the Nashville Predators.

Last Wednesday, on RDS's On Jase, Chantal Machabée said that the initial plan was much bigger. The organization wanted to celebrate not only Subban, but also Andrei Markov.

However, the club's former number 79 could not get away from his obligations in Russia. The Vice-president of hockey communications said that the organization is still in discussion with the former defenseman to honor him at a later date.

Although many thought that Markov hated Subban, the information seems to be false. It is a misinformation. The Russian even invited his former teammate to Russia for his wedding in 2017.

"My wife Sonya and I, it touched us tremendously. It showed the kind of person he is. He was a good teammate and a good friend." - Andrei Markov

Last fall, when P.K. Subban's retirement was announced, Markov even paid tribute to his former teammate.

"People are the way they are. You can't change them. P.K. was P.K. and will always be P.K. That's the way he is."

"He was a very great player. He was always positive, always had a lot of energy. No matter what was going on, his energy was contagious. Me, I had fun with him." - Andrei Markov

Honoring both defensemen at the same time would therefore have been a great idea. However, we'll have to settle for an individual tribute, and that's just fine.
