Many were surprised during the 2020 draft when the Canadiens were able to select forward Sean Farrell as low as 124th overall. Many had him projected to go in the second or third round, but his height of 5 feet and 9 inches likely scared off some teams.
One of those who strongly liked the pick was current Canadiens forward Cole Caufield. He didn't hesitate to say on social media that the selection of his former teammate in the American development program was nothing less than a steal.
He had predicted that Farrell would be a steal!
A Future in Montreal
In a recent interview with Marco D'Amico of MTLHockeyNow Farrell mentioned that he really likes the new culture of the organization and strongly believes he could stand out in Martin St-Louis' system.
We also learn that the 21-year-old forward would love to play on the Canadiens' top line with his former teammate and Nick Suzuki.
Farrell is currently having an excellent second season in the NCAA with Harvard University. He has tallied 18 goals and 29 assists for a total of 47 points in 29 games so far. He could very well be nominated for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, given to the best player in American college hockey.
It will be interesting to see if the young man joins the Canadiens in the latter part of his campaign after signing his entry-level contract in the NHL. That seems to be the plan of Kent Hughes, who recently told Guillaume Lefrancois of La Presse that he wants to sign him.
