The Habs have the first pick and the team's fans had a little idea this Monday on which player the team should select, as the general manager of the Habs, Kent Hughes confirmed during a press conference that the team should choose between Shane Wright, Juraj Slafkovsky and Logan Cooley.
After Bob McKenzie last week, it's the turn of another TSN hockey expert, former scout Craig Button, to have released his list for his famous Mock Draft for the first round. While Slafkovsky was at the top of McKenzie's list, now Shane Wright has dethroned him at the top of Button's list, much to the delight of Habs fans.
The Kingston Frontenacs' center leads the Slovakian winger, while Logan Cooley unsurprisingly closes out the top three. Defencemen Simon Nemec and David Jiricek round out the top five, but what's interesting about Button's list is that he mentioned a current NHL player as a comparison for each player and Shane Wright is compared to a certain Patrice Bergeron.
Let's just say that this is not the first time we've heard this comparison between the two players. As for Slafkovsky and Cooley, Button compares them to Pierre-Luc Dubois and Sebastian Aho respectively, which is not bad at all.
Another interesting thing about this list is that the first QMJHL player to be mentioned is Nathan Gaucher, the Quebec Remparts' forward, who comes in at #26, a pick that of course belongs to the Habs.
The list obviously does not take into account possible trades that could occur in the first round.
Between now and Friday night, there will be a lot of rumors and speculation, but one thing is for sure: hockey fans at the Bell Centre will get their money's worth.
