Some are concerned about the future of the Canadiens from a leadership standpoint, as Shea Weber will not play this season due to numerous injuries. However, everything leads us to believe that the number 6 will remain in the team's entourage despite everything, like a true captain. However, the other players in the team will have to take a little more space in the dressing room.
"I don't think it's one person who's going to take his place. It's several individuals, as a group, that are going to take a little bit more."
As for Phillip Danault's departure, the head coach didn't sound too worried. Ducharme was very pleased with the progression of his young center players last year, which obviously makes him very confident for the future.
"The experience that our young players have gained, it's sure to pay off. It takes experience to get through these things. You can't go to Wal-Mart and buy it."
In addition, Cedric Paquette and Mathieu Perreault could have important roles in the post-Danault transition. They have plenty of NHL experience, which could motivate Dom Ducharme to use them extensively in shorthanded situations.
The 48-year-old also hinted that Marc Bergevin might not be done making moves. The team could have a completely different dynamic come September 22.
"Marc [Bergevin] works every day to improve the team. It could be a different situation on September 22 as well."
What does Marc Bergevin have in store for us? A trade in sight? A free agent signing? We'll know very soon, as training camp starts in less than a month.
