On this Tuesday, as we reported in the last few minutes, the Buffalo Sabres announced that they have signed their young forward Dylan Cozens. The contract extension is for seven seasons and is worth $7.1 million annually.

This is another important comparison for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens in their negotiations for Cole Caufield's next contract.

We are getting closer to the goal!

Cozens, 21, drafted in 2019 (like Caufield) is a seventh overall pick who has a very solid 43 points in 49 games this season, including 17 goals.

Caufield, who just turned 22, has 36 points in 46 games this season, including 26 goals.

"The contracts of Boldy and Cozens could make Kent Hughes' negotiation with Cole Caufield a little easier.

Still very possible that Caufield will earn more than the two, but how much more? Cozens is having an impressive season himself."

- Marco D'Amico

Official announcement:

"Dylan Cozens has agreed to a 7-year, $49.7 million (7.1 AAV) contract extension."

- Buffalo Sabres

File to follow, but this will definitely have a direct impact on Caufield's next contract. Plus, we're talking about a player drafted the same year as the Habs' #22 forward, and who has similar production.

Note however that Caufield is a winger and Cozens is a center.

In light of this, how much would you offer Cole Caufield? 7.1 million per season? More than that?
