This is what is happening with the Montreal Canadiens, as they hold a poor 7-23-4 record. Their 18 points put them 31st in the NHL.
One of the few in the Habs who has offered good performances since the start of the season is goaltender Jake Allen. With the absence of Carey Price, Number 34 demonstrated that he could hold the fort in the absence of their number one goaltender.
Last Sunday, the goalkeeper had been rather direct in his comments about his team saying that everyone had to look in the mirror.
His agent, Allain Roy, was on JiC at TVA Sports to comment on what his client said.
"Jake is a very good person, a very good teammate. But he is very serious about his career. I'm not surprised to hear Jake make these comments because I think he's a little frustrated with the performance of the team. He doesn't like to lose. He's a very proud professional."
It must be said that Allen was bombarbed many times when he left here. The porous defensive of the CH certainly did not help the work of the doorman. Despite the abundance of work, Roy does not believe that his client is physically tired.
"Especially with Jake, he had a lot of good shots. It's not an easy job, but he never complains. I think he likes to play several games. On the other hand, psychologically, I think it becomes a bit frustrating. There are a lot of negatives around the team."
The stats the goalie has shown so far are of interest to teams looking for a strong number two. Allen's agent believes, however, that the chances of him being traded are rather slim.
"I think Jake understands that if Carey is not there, Jake is there. I didn't have this conversation with Jeff Gorton, but I'd be surprised if there was a deal, because I think they're going to need Jake for the rest of the season."
It will therefore be interesting to see how the Jake Allen file will be managed by Jeff Gorton by the trade deadline. Until then, let's hope he holds the fort in front of the Habs' cage!
