Earlier today, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was present at a press conference and he took the opportunity to give us some information on a number of issues.
He was asked about Logan Mailloux and his answer surprised many.
The Tricolore's GM was very clear and he revealed his intentions:
"General Manager Kent Hughes says the team has no intention of negotiating a contract with Logan Mailloux, as the organization still values Mailloux as a person and a member of the community." - Priyanta Emrith
Wow! So that means we should definitely not expect to see Mailloux sign a contract with the CH in the short term. It could happen next year, but many are becoming increasingly pessimistic about it:
"When I listen to Kent Hughes talk about Logan Mailloux, I have a strong feeling that the kid will never be offered a contract with the #CH!
To think that another Logan (Stankoven) was always available at that position and is currently dominating the WHL series with 30 points.." - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
So the young defenseman is still being evaluated and the Canadiens won't try to sign him to a contract this offseason. This will be an issue to watch next year, but we could definitely see a big turnaround on this one.
After all the heated discussions surrounding Marc Bergevin's selection of the young defenseman in 2021, Mailloux may never wear a Montreal Canadiens uniform (or a Laval Rocket uniform).
If Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton don't sign him, the CH could "win" a 2023 2nd round pick as compensation.
Do you hope that the CH will eventually sign him?
