Okay, so there are no big surprises in what I just mentioned, but there could be an unexpected personnel move by Kent Hughes.
As reported by Fanadiens.com's Patrick Beausejour, the Detroit Red Wings have reportedly told forward Jakub Vrana that he will not be recalled by the big club till the end of the season.
In fact, it would be outright over for Vrana in Detroit.
Involved in the Anthony Mantha trade at the trade deadline two years ago, the former Washington Capitals forward has been a disappointment since arriving in the Motor City. After playing only two games this season with the Red Wings, he was sent to the team's feeder club, the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American League.
A new Sean Monahan-style trade for Hughes?
According to several sources, it is highly likely, if not confirmed, that he has already played his last game in Detroit. It wouldn't be surprising if he was traded for more than free in the coming weeks.
There is also the possibility that his contract could be bought out by the Red Wings organization, with him making $5.25 million in 2023-2024.
A situation that is strangely similar to that of Sean Monahan last summer. We recall that the Habs acquired him from the Flames with a conditional first round pick for future considerations.
Vrana and a good draft pick or a good youngster, in Montreal, for future considerations, would you do it?
Could Kent Hughes, once again, be tempted by a player, who no one trusts, but who may have some very good hockey left to play?
It's still too early to speculate on this, but you have to admit that there are similarities between Jakub Vrana and Sean Monahan. We're talking about two first round picks who had very good seasons in the past.
In 2019-2020, Vrana had 52 points, including 25 goals, in 69 games with the Washington Capitals and he is only 26 years old. He has very solid stats and is very talented.
What do you think?
