As mentioned earlier today, immediately following the release of the 2022 NHL lottery results, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was present at a press conference.
He answered many questions, many of them very interesting, about the possibility of trading his first overall pick. See his answer:
"You can never say no, but we haven't discussed it yet. We're going to start by celebrating it (our first overall pick) and if we get calls, we'll listen, but we're not going to try to trade it."
"In life, it's always best to listen to everyone. If we get calls, we're going to listen, but it's not in our plans to trade it."
- Kent Hughes
An interesting response. We understand that Hughes knows very well that it will be a special choice, that he can announce in the middle of the Bell Center, but at the same time he keeps the door open if he receives an exceptional offer.
Some have suggested offering the first overall pick to the New York Rangers for Alexis Lafreniere. We imagine that this is the kind of offer that Hughes could possibly consider.
