Tomorrow is the opening of the free agent market at noon in the NHL. We can therefore expect a rather eventful day with the many signings that should be announced. Big names such as Alex Ovechkin withdrew from the market today by signing a deal with their respective team. However, there are still some good pieces of meat available.
On the Colorado Avalanche side, captain Gabriel Landeskog is still without a deal. However, the two parties seem to be approaching a pact according to what is reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. The NHL informant speaks of a contract of 7 years with an annual value of 7 million per season. There could also be an eighth year added to the agreement between the two sides.
If Joe Sakic can't get along with his captain, many teams will be interested in his services and will make him a lucrative offer. The problem with the Avalanche is the payroll. Sakic has a little over 19 million to get along with Landeskog, Philipp Grubauer, Devan Dubnyk, Brandon Saad and Tyson Jost. So that's probably the maximum in terms of annual salary that the Avalanche can afford to give their captain.
