On the Colorado Avalanche side, captain Gabriel Landeskog is still without a deal. However, the two parties seem to be approaching a pact according to what is reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. The NHL informant speaks of a contract of 7 years with an annual value of 7 million per season. There could also be an eighth year added to the agreement between the two sides.
Okay, working on some stuff. Biggest one is probably Landeskog...hearing 7x7 is on the table, and there are discussions about the possibility of eight years. We will see where this goes. There are others who want him. Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) July 27, 2021
If Joe Sakic can't get along with his captain, many teams will be interested in his services and will make him a lucrative offer. The problem with the Avalanche is the payroll. Sakic has a little over 19 million to get along with Landeskog, Philipp Grubauer, Devan Dubnyk, Brandon Saad and Tyson Jost. So that's probably the maximum in terms of annual salary that the Avalanche can afford to give their captain.
