While forward Sean Monahan is currently injured and his absence continues, it seems less and less likely that he will be traded for a 2023 first-round pick in the next three weeks.
Therefore, several experts have suggested that instead of trading him, Kent Hughes could simply sign him to a one-season contract to give him a fresh start and avoid losing him "for nothing."
Regarding this, there is some new information.
According to information from reputable reporter David Pagnotta from the website The Fourth Period, talks between forward Sean Monahan and Montreal Canadiens management for a potential contract have hit a dead end.
Therefore, one shouldn't expect an imminent announcement of a contract extension and a trade remains the most likely scenario in his case:
"As of today, there have been no negotiations on a contract extension between the Montreal Canadiens and injured center Sean Monahan."
In any case, let's hope that Monahan can return to the game quickly and perform. It would make things a lot easier.
Note that Monahan will become an unrestricted free agent without compensation this summer, and he has been back on skates since Thursday (which is an encouraging development).
In 25 games this season, the 28-year-old center has collected 17 points, including six goals.
