Major: Surprise Statement Concerning David Reinbacher Versus Star Defenseman Charlie McAvoy
While the comparison game is always popular in the NHL, we just got an extremely encouraging one.
And it didn't even come from Montreal!
Increasingly, we realize that Reinbacher is held in very high esteem in all corners of the NHL, as evidenced by the following statement.
"Reinbacher has the size and playing style that motivated the Bruins to draft Charlie McAvoy 14th overall in the 2016 draft."
- Kevin Paul Dupont, a Boston journalist This is very interesting. Later in his analysis, he even goes so far as to compare Reinbacher and McAvoy.
There has been a lot of talk about Matvei Michkov's very high potential, but if Reinbacher has the potential to become a Charlie McAvoy, that would be huge for the Montreal Canadiens.
Do you think the Boston Bruins would trade McAvoy for Nikita Kucherov today? The answer is no.
If both Reinbacher and Michkov reach their full potential, it would be a very logical comparison. (McAvoy vs Kucherov)
Caution. The point here is certainly not to put too much pressure on the young player and say that Reinbacher will be the next McAvoy, it's simply to highlight the fact that the young Austrian also has huge potential if he progresses well.
McAvoy, 25, was a 14th overall pick in 2016. He scored 52 points in 67 games this season, and 56 points in 78 games the previous year.
He is among the top ten defenders in the world.
This will be interesting to watch, but it is indeed very exciting and encouraging.
