We even know that Kent Hughes made a serious attempt to acquire him in the draft, but the Edmonton Oilers' asking price was too high.
As Kent Hughes has said so well in the past, it's all about buying low and selling high.
Puljujarvi, 24, is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound winger. He had 14 goals and 36 points (in 65 games) last season and has eight points this season. He was a standout alongside Patrik Laine and Sebastian Aho at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Major Development
We just had a major development on this file.
According to the excellent David Pagnotta, the Oilers are now reportedly asking for a "third or fourth line player" in exchange for Puljujarvi.
That's exactly what the Canadiens obviously want to trade, so this is indeed a significant development and certainly increases the chances of a trade being made between Montreal and Edmonton.
This summer, the Oilers wanted a first or second round pick. That was too much, but for a "third or fourth round player", would you do it?
It's a vague description, but we imagine players like Joel Armia, Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman could be considered third or fourth line players.
Armia in particular would be the kind of player the Oilers would be looking for.
To be continued.
