A few hours after the Montreal Canadiens, it was the turn of the Winnipeg Jets to do their year-end review.
It's been a busy one.
While several players criticized their teammates and while their locker room seems more divided than ever, one of the players who is supposed to be a leader for them, Mark Scheifele, went on a really weird and very selfish statement, according to many.
As reported by my colleague Christian Matte (Marqueur.com), Scheifele was asked about his future in Winnipeg and his status as an uncompensated free agent for 2024.
Scheifele doesn't seem too keen on staying in Winnipeg:
"Tomorrow, I'm going to have a tough discussion to have with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. I need to know, I need to understand where this team is going. I'm at the peak of my career. I've got to do what's best for me and for my own career." - Mark Scheifele
He adds:
"I like how I'm playing. I'm in good shape. I'm only getting better and I'll be a better player next year, more than I was this year. I need to know what the direction is and what the changes will be, if any. I have to think about my career and what will be best for me. It will be discussions with my agents and everyone in my family, to find out what I really want. So it's going to be a tough discussion tomorrow." - Mark Scheifele
Whew! Not a great "leader" speech... And one thing for sure, he's definitely not committing.
His name circulated a bit in the trade rumors in March, but now it could really heat up.
Is he an interesting player to acquire, in your opinion?
As a comparison, see here what a youngster like Alexander Romanov had to say about his current team:
"I love Montreal so much, you have no idea how much. That's why I want to stay here as long as possible, my whole career in the best of all worlds." - Alex Romanov
Very different speeches, let's say...
