Since Sunday morning, the Bell Centre has been open to the general public so that people can pay their last respects to their idol, Guy Lafleur. Thousands of people came to pay their respects to the family of the deceased.
Lafleur is so revered in the hockey world that even rival teams have sent ambassadors to Quebec to pay their respects. Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan organized a group of alumni to travel to Montreal on behalf of the team. The group includes Leafs legends Wendel Clark, Rick Vaive and Doug Gilmour.
The number of people who showed up is a clear sign of the impact he has had not only in the province of Quebec, but throughout the hockey world as a whole. A sign of a true legend.
The event will continue this Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bell Centre. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral.
