Obviously, expectations will be more modest this year since the team finished last in the overall standings last year, but according to some players, they want to win this year.
As for the fans, it's obvious that despite the rebuild, they'd like to see clear progress in 2022-2023, but as J.B. Gagné of GoHabsGo.com reports, the owner himself doesn't think so.
On the sidelines of the team's golf tournament, Geoff Molson for a rare time, perhaps the first time in franchise history, used the term rebuilding to describe the process his club is currently in.
Still, quite surprising as a statement coming from Molson, who had hardly ever used this term in previous seasons. Back when Marc Bergevin was the Habs' general manager, the term reset was used more often than not when the team had a bad season the year before.
Except, for next season, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have announced their intentions for the team, and fans may be better prepared for the Habs to tear it up this season. Still, when the owner and the president take such a position, you can expect a long season in Montreal.
What do you think?
It's interesting to see that Molson contradicts his own players, like Joel Edmundson who said that the rebuild is now over in Montreal.
On the other hand, it's obvious that the players want to win and don't want to start the season by saying that they are in a rebuild. They have the right mentality and, on Molson's side, expectations seem low for 2022-23.
Let's recall here what Edmundson mentioned:
